As a grandparent, parent, leader, and author, I understand the importance of nurturing children's confidence, faith, and purpose. In a world filled with distractions and competing voices, families often ask: How do I guide my child to discover their true identity?
That’s exactly why I wrote my children’s book, The Chicken and the Eagle: Discovering Who You Are. This story, rooted in Scripture, empowers families to rise above challenges and embrace their God-given identity. Written for my beautiful granddaughter, Ellieana Joy, I realized this message is meant for every child—every granddaughter, grandson, daughter, and son.
A Story with a Message of Hope
The Chicken and the Eagle is more than just a beautifully illustrated children’s book. It’s a parable about self-discovery, courage, and stepping into one’s true potential.
The story follows a little eagle raised among chickens. This eagle begins to wonder if there’s more to life than scratching the ground. With the help of a mentor and a spark of faith, the eagle discovers it was made to soar.
This reminds me of Isaiah 40:31:
“But those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.”
I want every child to see that they, too, were created to soar—not limited by fear or doubt but strengthened by the hope we have in Christ.
My Heart Behind This Story
I believe storytelling is one of the most powerful ways to shape a child’s future. That’s why I created this book—not only to entertain but to inspire conversations between parents and children about identity, purpose, and faith.
When families read this book together, my prayer is that they will:
Build confidence in their children, reminding them they are “fearfully and wonderfully made” (Psalm 139:14).
Encourage healthy identity formation, knowing “we are God’s workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works” (Ephesians 2:10).
Strengthen their family bond by discussing the lessons in the story and applying God’s promises.
This is more than a bedtime story—it’s a tool to plant seeds of truth and hope into the next generation.
Why I Believe Families Will Love This Book
When I share The Chicken and the Eagle with parents and grandparents, the feedback is consistent: the story brings joy to their kids while providing a framework for faith.
The illustrations are bright and engaging, capturing children’s imaginations.
The story naturally leads to discussions about who God created us to be.
Parents tell me they’ve used it almost like a devotional, asking their kids questions like: “What makes you unique?” or “How does God want you to soar?”
I often think of Proverbs 22:6 when I hear this feedback:
“Start children off on the way they should go, and even when they are old, they will not turn from it.”
Raising Up a Generation of Eagles
One of my greatest passions is helping families cut through the noise of today’s culture. Kids are constantly bombarded with confusing messages about who they are. Through this story, I want to remind them—and you—that identity and purpose come only from God.
When you read this with your children, you’re not just giving them a fun story. You’re speaking life into them, just as Proverbs 18:21 reminds us:
“Death and life are in the power of the tongue.”
And when fear creeps in, you can remind your child of 2 Timothy 1:7:
“For God gave us a spirit not of fear but of power and love and self-control.”
Every child was made to soar. Sometimes they just need someone to remind them of who they really are in God’s eyes. That’s why I wrote this book.
The Importance of Faith-Based Identity
In today’s world, children face many challenges. They encounter messages that can confuse their sense of self. It’s vital to instill a faith-based identity in them. This identity helps them navigate life’s ups and downs with confidence and grace.
When children understand their worth in God’s eyes, they can face challenges with courage. They learn to embrace their unique gifts and talents. This understanding fosters resilience and a sense of belonging.
As parents and caregivers, we have the opportunity to guide them in this journey. We can help them recognize their potential and the purpose God has for them.
